Pauls Land 6
League

After a three month break due to bad weather it looks like a run of normal leagues games was on the horizon! A trip to the familiar summer training camp of Paul’s Land seen an away fixture against local rivals lads Ford Sports Reserves. After not winning since November 2009 the Gaffa made some positive changes, both to the team and formation. Returning to the tried and tested 4-1-4-1 formation the teams was as follows; Retaining his captaincy was Booth in goal, Liam right back, Yes Man left back and it was a return to the starting line up for Wilson along side the versatile excellence of Dave Yates. In front of the back four was the “guard dog” Gav Woolley. Midfield seen a return on the left wing for Bond and Mr Devine on the right side. In the middle of the park Gregory linked up with Smithy in a new roll. Up front was the ever present Bez.

Switching ends for the first half Jailhouse were attacking on the slightly down hill slope. First chance of the game fell to Luke Devine, after Bez’s one-on-one with the keeper was saved and parried out, only for Luke to touch it inches wide. It was pretty much all the Jailhouse when the dead lock was broken after Bez rounded the keeper to slot home his 5th goal of the season. Luke Devine came close again after the keeper fumbled the ball on the edge of the area and his chip just fell wide of the far post. At the other end the defense and Boothy were hardly tested until a dubious penalty was awarded which was dispatched to make it 1-1.Fighting back, Bond hit a thunderous strike from the left side which left the keeper routed only for it to come bouncing back off the wood work! Approaching half time Bez was fouled just outside the box, fancying his chances after an earlier sighter Kev Wilson stepped up to drive the ball low and hard under the keeper for his first ever Jailhouse goal. Half time 2 -1 to the good.

Second half and we needed to build on our lead. Chances were being created but each time being put inches wide or off target; no matter what we tried we always seem to fall short at the final hurdle. Luke Devine was put through twice from Gregory only to squander both chances. Smith broke form midfield but couldn’t capitalize. The pressure was being felt and the Gaffa made some changes. Bond off for Ruddy and Bez dropping into the left wing position. Two minutes after coming on Ruddy notched the Jailhouse 3rd after some Devine foot work from Luke. Three one to the good and the lads were cruising…or so they though, from a Jailhouse corner Ford Sports broke to catch us on the counter attack and make it 3 – 2 with ten minutes to go. Feeling they had the rub of the green Ford Sports pushed there big center back up top to try and cause some problem, counter acting this the Jailhouse management bought on T-Bone. However the inevitable happen in stoppage time, when a Ford Sports corner resulted in there center back scoring and gracing them with a point.

A draw which seems like a lost and on the day our finishing cost us all three points.
