League
Third league game of the season seen yet another home game. Drayton were this weeks visitors to the lush green grass and impressive looking Stanley Road.
After a weeks rest, the Gaffa opted to change the formation and personnel of the starting line up, changing from a 4-4-2 to 4-1-4-1. Nik “Ever Present” Booth in goal, Captain Wilson and T-Bone forming the steel for the defence, Chef man in his normal groove on the left and after a fine performance in the previous game it was a new starting position at right back for Yates. In front of the back 4, in a new roll, was king pin Gav Woolley aka Javier Mascherano! The centre of midfield seen Polish International Taylor linking up with Gregs. Bez and Smith were left and right wingers respectively and spear heading the attack was young gun Luke Devine.
From the off it was a very lively start with all out attacking football. Excellent play from the midfield duo of Gregs and Taylor made it hard very difficult for there midfield to produce any football, giving the Jailhouse the upper hand. On the odd occasion they did manage to attack it was soon defused by Gav Woolley sitting on front of the back four, with this impressive play the first goal was inevitable. The dead lock was broken when a Smithy shot was parried and Luke reacted before any of the defenders had even thought about reacting to knock home his 4th of the season. The second came with a neat one-two between Gregs and Smith resulting in Gregs slotting home (left footed) his first of the season. A goal he’s dedicated to John and Edward – X Factor 09! A very impressive defence performance was hindered when Yates scratched his head and had to be substituted for Paul Hart, We wish you a speedy recovery David. The third goal came after a great lay off from Luke for Bez to finally score his fiftieth goal for the Jailhouse, after 630 days, 12 hours and 17 minutes also revealing a very faded “50 Goal” t-shirt.
Half time and the Gaffa was more then happy with the lads performance and wanted more of the same, which is what he got. Again the defence were immense and Booth was almost asleep in goal. The fourth goal came from the penalty spot after our Polish International was allegedly tripped inside the box, he picked himself up and converted the spot kick. Later in the half the keeper came too far out his box for Gav Woolley to chip a shot only for it to hit the bar!
An excellent performance from all the team notably the defence and a star man performance from Gav Woolley in his new roll.
